Ethiopia’s drought

PASTORAL TRIBES ON THE EDGE

 

Ethiopia is facing its third year of drought and the pastoral communities are the most affected. The pastoral tribes of Borena zone in Oromia are on the edge of a famine. The life conditions are very hard especially for women who have to walk for hours to find dirty water in ponds. The families do their best to find food for the cattle but they die everyday of hunger. The drought is affecting deeply the pastoral economy, now the tribes in Borena can’t afford to buy food anymore, they only drink a cup of tea in the morning and some maize in the the evening. Malnutrition and hunger is now part of the daily life. The tribe of Borena will face famine if the drought continues . In the horn of Africa, 13 millions people are affected by the the food crisis caused the climate change and 5, 7 millions people in Ethiopia.
